Gabriel Hamer-Webb scored five tries at the weekend in Leicester’s demolition of winless Newcastle Red Bulls, but that wasn’t the most impressive stat from that game. Hamer-Webb gained a massive 237 metres and made eight line breaks, both being the highest in a PREM rugby match since Opta recorded that data (2008/09 season).
Both Hamer-Webb and Noah Caluori scored five tries in a game this weekend. Saracens star Winger Caluori’s five tries came in their own thrashing of Sale Sharks. Both players will feature against each other this weekend, in what promises to be a cracking encounter.
Tigers are purring just at the right time
Leicester are in a rich vein of form at the moment, and just at the right time. They haven’t lost this calendar year, winning five games in the PREM. They have also scored 30+ points in each of those five wins. Hamer-Webb seems to have found his form as well. He hadn’t scored before the turn of the year, but he now has eight tries in the last four PREM games.
The Tigers are in third in the Gallagher PREM, only six points behind leaders Northampton Saints. After this weekend’s fixture with Saracens, they have to play the other three sides in the top four, starting with Northampton on 9th May, then their last two games are home to Exeter Chiefs and away to Bath. Their other game is away to Sale Sharks.
