Eddie Hearn has revealed in an exclusive interview with the Telegraph that Henry Pollock could be forced to leave Northampton Saints if his salary doesn’t increase.
In the interview Hearn revealed that Pollock is currently on £150,000 a year, but given his commercial abilities he could be earning 10 times as much elsewhere.
Hearn’s matchroom agency are set to enter crunch talks with Northampton Saints to negotiate a new deal.
In the interview Hearn said, “Henry Pollock puts bums on the seats. Henry Pollock drives viewership on TNT or wherever it’s going to be. Henry Pollock sells shirts, right?”
The current salary cap rules
The Gallagher Prem currently has salary cap rules which maxes a clubs potential salaries to just under £8 million per season. This includes some additions to their base salary caps for home grown academy players and internationals.
There is one player who sits outside of the salary cap and can be paid above and beyond the standard pay package.
Fin Smith is reportedly the current player for Northampton Saints who is outside of the cap on £600k a year.
For Northampton to make the wages for Pollock possible they would need to make him the eligible player and find the difference between Pollock and Smith’s current wages in the salary cap.
