Sale Sharks fullback Mike Haley has been suspended for two weeks following a striking citation for an incident that occurred during the club’s recent 28-27 victory against Wasps.
The 23-year-old was seen to make contact with Wasps wing Josh Bassett, and pleaded guilty to the charge on Wednesday.
Apologising to Bassett, Haley accepted his punishment that will keep him on the sideline until May 1.
In that time, the playoff chasing Sharks will have to enter games with Newcastle and Exeter without their star back.
Haley will move to Pro 14 side Munster in Ireland upon the completion of this season.
Sale currently sit sixth in the Premiership table, three points adrift of fourth placed Wasps – a place they’ll need to be come the end of the season if they are to compete for the Premiership trophy.
With a win against Newcastle (the team occupying the fifth spot), the Sharks can give themselves every chance to progress to the final four. However, this is a mountain they’ll have to climb without Mike Haley.
