Noah Caluori emulated Henry Pollock with a celebration as he scored one of his five tries as Saracens defeated Sale Sharks 85-19.
The celebration involved throwing the ball in the air and simulating shooting it as it fell.
The young stars of this weekend’s action
Henry Pollock has become one of the most recognisable faces in rugby. He even signed with Matchroom Talent Agency and Eddie Hearn as his new commercial agents.
Pollock has made such an impact at 21, going on the British and Irish Lions Tour to Australia last summer.
On Saturday, Northampton Saints travelled to play the Exeter Chiefs. Pollock scored a try, showing his power and ability to find the try line with just over five minutes to go. This put Northampton 28-21 ahead. Exeter scored just a few minutes later to level it up, but another youngster for Northampton, Fin Smith, scored the winning try in the final moments.
Caluori lit up the Prem as he scored five tries as Saracens hammered Sale Sharks. He showed a full range of abilities through the scoring of his five tries, but after the first, he chose to emulate the celebration that Pollock had attempted the day before.
The new generation of rugby stars
These two players show the new wave of rugby coming through. Players are not only in the professional era but are building towards the superstar era of the game. Young players not only need to worry about being the best players but also about how to brand themselves and how to make the most out of a short career. A young talent like Caluori will be looking towards Pollock, a few years his senior, on how to maximise their earning potential in a short career.
Pollock is a ‘marmite’ figure within the game. People either love him or hate him. Hearn also signed Finn Russell to Matchroom, a player who is at the peak of his game and at a later stage of his career.
