The Super Rugby Super Round is set to take place in round 11 of Super Rugby at Te Kaha Stadium in Christchurch.

The event will see all five rounds of Super Rugby played in a single stadium over the course of a weekend, starting on Friday, 24th April and finishing on Sunday, 26th April.

The event will be the first sporting matches to be played at the newly opened Te Kaha Stadium in Christchurch.

History of the Super Round

The Super around was introduced and played for three years in Melbourne. The weekend of rugby was relatively unsuccessful and drew a lot of criticism for its low attendance.

The Super Round didn’t take place in 2025 after then Melbourne franchise, the Rebels were axed.

Fresh start in Christchurch

The Te Kaha Stadium will open to the sporting world as the new home of the Crusaders. They have been playing in the temporary Apollo Projects Stadium since 2012. This was due to damage on their stadium following the 2011 earthquake.

The stadium will also host rugby league and women’s rugby and will host the All Blacks this July.

Super Rugby state of play

The Super Rugby table saw a massive mix-up in Round 10 of the competition as the league leaders, the Hurricanes, were defeated by the second-placed Chiefs to go ahead of them in the table. The Blues round off the top three of sides who are all within two points of each other. Moana Pasifika are rock bottom after only one win all season. This is particularly difficult after the announcement that they would be ceasing operations at the end of this season.
