Tale of the game

Ireland started their test series against the All Blacks at the fortress of Eden Park. The sides traded early penalties and after a monster hit from Julian Savea on Rob Kearney, the All Blacks went 9-3 ahead after 17 minutes.

Julian Savea opened the scoring for the All Blacks with some excellent handling from the home side who countered well from a Murray box kick that wasn’t put under enough pressure from the chase.

Savea scored his second as he steamrolled Rob Kearney on 37 minutes.

Half-time 23-3

Just a few minutes into the second half, Julian Savea completed his hat-trick as with more great distribution, Israel Dagg was able to draw in the wide defenders and put Savea over in the corner. Savea would become the first All Black to score three in a game against Ireland, with this coming on his debut.

Ireland would score the next try. Rory Best blocked a Dan Carter chip through and an unconventional kick upfield from Jonny Sexton put Fergus McFadden in a foot race with Richie McCaw, winning the reace with ease.

From the kick-off Kieran Read picked the ball from the air, but lost the ball less than a metre short of the line.

The All Blacks scored from a great scrum move where Kieran Read drew in contact and offloaded to Adam Thomson to fall over the line.

Conrad Smith sealed the game with a 42-10 scoreline when he was put through a hole by Aaron Cruden.
