South Africa have turned the Junior World Championship into a chase almost immediately. World Rugby’s day-one round-up from Georgia confirmed a 104-7 Junior Springboks win over Uruguay, while Argentina and Australia also opened with emphatic bonus-point statements.
The scale matters. South Africa now sit top of Pool A with a +97 points difference, ahead of Wales, after a 16-try display led by the physical tone Kevin Foote’s side wanted from the first whistle. Prop Rambo Kubheka had captained the Junior Boks into the Uruguay opener, and the response was ruthless.
Junior Boks force early pressure
World Rugby noted that South Africa passed 100 points for only the third time in Junior World Championship history. That backs up the warning already visible in ReadRugbyUnion’s earlier 104-7 match focus: the defending champions have not eased into Georgia, they have attacked the format.
The pool tables underline the gap. South Africa, Argentina and Australia all took five points, with Argentina leading Pool C after a 78-14 win over the USA and Australia top of Pool D following a 90-22 win over Spain.
Australia and Argentina add weight
Australia’s result, covered in ReadRugbyUnion’s Zach Fittler-led Spain report, gives Pool D an immediate edge before France enter the sharper part of their campaign.
World Rugby’s live pools show the first-round split clearly: bonus points and points difference are already shaping the semi-final route. After one round, South Africa have made the loudest argument.
