Murrayfield Record Gives Scotland Fiji Nations Championship Edge

Scotland have been handed a sharp statistical reminder before Fiji arrive at Scottish Gas Murrayfield in the Nations Championship.

Scottish Rugby’s latest head-to-head review shows Scotland have won eight of the 11 Tests between the countries, with Fiji winning three and no draws recorded.

The Round 3 Southern Series meeting is scheduled for Saturday, 18 July, with kick-off at 2:10pm BST. Fiji are listed as the designated hosts, but the match will be played in Edinburgh as part of their three UK-based “home” fixtures against Wales, England and Scotland.

Murrayfield pattern gives Townsend a clear marker

The crucial split is venue-based. Across the last five meetings, Scotland have won all three matches played in Edinburgh, averaging 46.3 points. Fiji, by contrast, have won the last two meetings staged in Suva, including last year’s 29-14 victory.

That gives Gregor Townsend’s side a useful psychological foothold, but not a soft fixture. Fiji’s 2025 win showed how quickly their pace and offloading threat can punish loose spacing, while Darcy Graham’s four-try display in Scotland’s 57-17 victory in 2024 remains the attacking benchmark.

Why Fiji still change the equation

The wider Nations Championship context matters too. Scotland open against Argentina, then face South Africa, before this Fiji fixture closes their July block.

Sione Tuipulotu’s Argentina message has already set the tone for a campaign where Scotland need early authority, not late recovery. The format itself remains under scrutiny after rugby’s new Nations Championship gamble put travel, venue logic and competitive balance into sharper focus.
