Scotland have confirmed that wing Kyle Steyn has undergone surgery on a long-standing foot problem and will miss Saturday’s Nations Championship finale against Fiji at Murrayfield, joining flanker Rory Darge and lock Alex Samuel on the injury list.
According to a fresh update from The Scotsman, national assistant coach John Dalziel confirmed Steyn was operated on this week to address a stress fracture the Glasgow Warriors wing had been managing “for a while,” with the procedure always pencilled in for this point in the summer block. Darge, meanwhile, has been ruled out under head injury protocol after failing an HIA at half-time in Pretoria, while Alex Samuel’s knee surgery was confirmed earlier this week and is expected to keep him out for several weeks.
Gregor Townsend Faces Growing Scotland Rugby Injury Concerns Before Fiji Test
The trio’s absence leaves Gregor Townsend needing fresh faces across the back three and back row for a Scotland side already reshuffling after four straight away Tests. Dalziel said the squad remains “resilient” and “in a good place” despite the travel schedule, with players back to full contact training as the group builds towards Saturday.
Fiji arrive at Murrayfield having lost both Nations Championship outings so far, including a 73-8 mauling by England, but Dalziel warned of a “backlash” from a side that pushed Wales close in round one. Scotland, who slipped behind England in the latest world rugby rankings after Saturday’s 42-28 defeat to South Africa, will name their team on Thursday looking to close out their home block with a win.
