Saracens duo scoop top prizes at PREM awards despite a disappointing finish

Saracens have won big at the PREM end-of-season awards, which took place on Wednesday night.

Saracens players won the two main awards for the men’s game despite finishing outside the top four in the 10-team league.

The awards brought a positive finish to the season after an incident between the Saracens team and England cricketers after their end-of-season party, which overshadowed last weekend for the London side.

Tom Willis- Men’s Player of the Year

Tom Willis had an incredible 2025-26 season and was a clear winner for his individual performances in the PREM. As a back-rower, he has shown quality in all areas of the game.

Planet Rugby shared some of the incredible stats from Willis this season stating; “Willis finished top of the charts for carries (249), offloads (31) and defenders beaten (122), while also ending second for gainline carries (102), fourth for turnovers (17) and seventh for tackles completed (203).”

His ability all over the field was untouched in the league. To lead the way in so many carrying stats and also to be ranked so highly for turnovers and tackles is incredible for the back rower. He definitely is not a one-trick pony.

Noah Caluori- Men’s Breakthrough Player of the Year

The men’s breakthrough player of the year award, going to Noah Caluori, is no real surprise, as he also ended the season as the top try scorer in the league in his debut season. The winger wasn’t just crucial for his try-scoring ability but has also emerged as one of the most athletic aerial wingers in the world.

The height he reaches when he competes for the ball is something that has taken everyone by surprise and shows his readiness for the next level, and he has been included in the England training squad for this summer’s Rugby Nations Championship.

With 18 tries, he scored more tries than any other player in the PREM this season. His standout game came against the Sale Sharks when he scored five tries in one game, having also scored four against the Newcastle Red Bulls earlier in the season.

The flaw in English rugby currently

The problem England have is that Caluori is currently uncapped,  but is in the England training squad for this summer. Willis is following in his brother’s footsteps and will return to France this summer when he moves to Toulon, having previously been at Bordeaux in 2022-23. This will automatically make him ineligible to play international rugby. Therefore, England’s two best back-rowers based on form, the Willis Brothers, are both unable to play under Steve Borthwick.
