Garry Ringrose has shared his admiration for the player who is expected to be his opposite number when Leinster meet Toulon on Saturday in the Champions Cup semi-final.
Leinster lost out in the semi-final last year when they were defeated by Northampton Saints. Ringrose has commented on his fellow 13 Juan Ignacio Brex, who he is expected to come up against in Saturday’s semi-final.
Ringrose on Brex
Ringrose commented, “I have so much admiration for Ignacio Brex. He’s an exceptional player.”
Brex has grown to be one of the most important players for Toulon and Italy. The 13 came to the forefront of rugby for his impressive partnership with Tomasso Menoncello, which helped Italy to a famous Six Nations, including a win over England for the first time.
Why Brex is a danger to Leinster
Brex showed his quality in the last round when he scored an incredible individual try against Glasgow.
Ringrose shared that he admires and appreciates the intricacies that he has to his game.
The Leinster 13 shared that his reading of the game is “exceptional” and this will make the attacking side of the game even more difficult at the Aviva on Saturday.
The history of Toulon at the Aviva
Toulon, in their pomp, were an incredible side filled with the biggest names in the international game. In 2013, they took on Clermont in the Champions Cup final at the Aviva Stadium.
They won the game 16-15 to win their first European title. The team was littered with international stars like Jonny Wilkinson, the Armitage brothers, Carl Hayman, Bakkies Botha and Matt Giteau.
The following year, the French side beat Leinster on their way to the final, adding stars like Bryan Habana and made it two Champions Cups in a row.
In 2015, Toulon needed extra time to beat Leinster in the semi-final to win three Champions Cups in a row.
