The Red Roses have announced a record viewership figure for the opening weekend match in a Women’s Six Nations as England defeated Ireland 33-12 at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
They shared that there had been 1.05 million viewers on BBC One as the Red Roses started their campaign with a win. This broke the record for a round-one game of the tournament in the UK.
The rise of Women’s Rugby in the UK
England have won each version of the Women’s Six Nations since 2019. They have also won a Grand Slam in each of the last four tournaments. They are currently on a run of 44 test match wins, running back to the 2022 Rugby World Cup, where they lost to the Black Ferns in the final.
This run was exemplified by a World Cup win in 2025, which was made even more special as it was a home World Cup.
A record-breaking start to the Women’s Six Nations
The Six Nations started, not only with a record-breaking viewership in the UK, but also a record-breaking attendance.
77,120 fans were in attendance for the round one game against Ireland. This was the largest Women’s Six Nations attendance in history.
