The South Africa lock has been sidelined since November following a red card for a gouging incident involving Alex Mann. The Sharks’ recent United Rugby Championship win over Cardiff Rugby marked the final game of that ban.
His return couldn’t come at a more crucial stage.
Sharks Circling
With knockout rugby on the horizon in the Challenge Cup, welcoming back a player of his calibre — and experience — is a major boost for the Durban side.

Beyond European competition, Etzebeth’s availability could also have a significant impact on the United Rugby Championship standings.
The Sharks currently sit 10th, seven points outside the play-off places, with just four matches left to play.
On paper, there’s still a path. All four of their remaining fixtures are against teams below them in the table, including bottom-placed Zebre.
Maximum points from those games would at least give them a fighting chance of securing a playoff position.
The Chasing Pack
That said, their fate isn’t entirely in their own hands. Results elsewhere will be just as important.
The Bulls, currently eighth, also have a favourable run-in against lower-ranked opposition, which could make closing the gap difficult.
However, other rivals face tougher schedules.
Connacht, despite a strong run of form, still have three challenging fixtures against higher-ranked teams, including an away trip this weekend to the Sharks.
They’ll be hoping to extend Jack Carty’s swansong season, as the legend recently announced his retirement from the game.
Munster, who sit just above the Sharks, are also in inconsistent form and still have key games to navigate; including an all-Ireland meeting with Connacht that guarantees dropped points for at least one side in the race.
Meanwhile, Cardiff Rugby face a daunting finish, with fixtures against table-toppers Glasgow Warriors and the high-flying Stormers still to come. Slip-ups there could quickly shift the standings.
All of which sets up a tense run-in to the URC season. And with a two-time World Cup winner back in the fold, the Sharks suddenly look far more capable of making a late push when it matters most.
