Wales keep marching on. That’s thirteen wins on the bounce now. They were the best side in the first half but Scotland came back into it in the second period and ultimately had a chance to defeat Wales. The opportunity for a Scottish win came about through an improvement in their performance and Wales possibly switching off thinking the game had been won.
Wales could or maybe should have put more points on the board first half which would have reflected their superiority.
Some of the Welsh defence was very good to repel the Scottish attacks in the second half. Again the Welsh lineout isn’t quite clicking which will be a worry for the Welsh coaches.
Wales now have a chance for the Grand Slam at home against Ireland. There will be a few nervous Welsh fans sweating on the fitness of Liam Williams. Not a perfect performance by Wales but they have developed a good winning habit. Winning ugly is the sign of a good team.
Liam Williams - 7.5
Nice hands early on. Very good under the high ball, injured while making a brave tackle on the 47th minute.
George North - 7
A couple of breaks, a good defensive turnover when under pressure from Scotland late on.
Jonathan Davies - 7.5
Scored a try first half, some good covering tackles & good hands for the Adams’ try even though on replay his pass was slightly forward.
Hadleigh Parkes - 7.5
Harshly penalised for a high tackle, good carries in the build up to Jonathan Davies’ try, strong in defense with a turnover & a covering catch on a Scottish kick through.
Josh Adams - 7
A mixed bag but made a positive contribution with a very well taken try. A couple of dropped passes in promising attacking positions mean a lower score than his previous games.
Gareth Anscombe - 7
Some good offloads & an excellent long penalty but missed an easier one 2nd half.
Gareth Davies - 6.5
Poor knock on early doors and a box kick blocked 1st half. His kicking out of hand improved as the game went on. Solid enough.
Rob Evans - 7
The scrum was decent although it needed to be reset numerous times. Popped up with a good carry on one occasion.
Ken Owens 6.5
Varied his line outs with a short one to George North but still problems in this area. Too many opportunities butchered or line out throws stolen.
Tomas Francis - 7
Helped Wales recycle ball around the fringes and with help from his team mates held a Scottish attacker up when they had crossed the line.
Adam Beard 7.5
An improvement on recent performances. Had to go off to be bandaged up on 21 minutes. Was involved in disrupting attacking Scottish mauls & turned the ball over for Wales when the Scots were piling on the pressure.
Alun Wyn Jones - 7
Gave away a couple of penalties but was a reassuring presence for Wales. Part of a strong defensive effort second half.
Josh Navidi - 6.5
Uncharacteristically missed a tackle on the dangerous Graham and gave away an early penalty. Carried well in the build up to the Jonathan Davies try.
Justin Tipuric - 7.5
Held people up well in the tackle and helped Wales secure some much needed ball from the front of the lineout.
Ross Moriarty - 7.5
Involved in the mix up for the early Gareth Davies knock on. Tackled and carried strongly.
Elliot Dee - 7
On at 64mins. First line out throw of his secured by a Welsh jumper.
Nicky Smith - 7
On at 61mins. No mistakes. The Welsh scrum was relatively untroubled.
Dillon Lewis - 7
On at 64mins. Part of a secure Welsh scrum.
Jake Ball - 6
On as a blood replacement early then came on midway through the second half. Should have passed wide when Wales had numbers outside near the line & later spilt a pass.
Aaron Wainwright - 7
Defended well when on for the closing stages.
Aled Davies - 6.5
On for Gareth Davies late in the second half. One box kick just outside their own 22 kicked straight out of play which put Wales under pressure. Later put in a better box kick.
Dan Biggar - 7
On for Williams early in the second half. Miscued a clearance kick but put in a great tackle on Hastings.
On late. N/A.
