Ashton ruled out of Wales encounter
England winger Chris Ashton has been ruled out of the crucial Six Nations tie against Wales next weekend, Sky Sports report.
He has reportedly picked up a minor calf strain ahead of the clash but looks set to return for Italy’s trip to Twickenham next month.
The winger started in England’s emphatic 44-8 victory over France last weekend before being replaced in the second half, as Eddie Jones’ men made it two wins from two following a shock victory over Ireland in the opening game.
Exeter winger Jack Nowell replaced Ashton against France after starting in the win over Ireland and looks set to feature from the start once again in England’s pivotal match against Wales.
Warren Gatland’s side have also won their opening two fixtures of the competition, though England are two points ahead after a bonus points win against France.
Jones has two more options in the form of Joe Cokanasiga and the uncapped Ollie Thorley as potential replacements for Ashton, but Nowell looks poised to start against Wales.
