Former England star Will Greenwood has tipped outgoing Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane for a role with the national rugby union side.
Current England defence coach Paul Gustard will become head of rugby at Harlequins upon the conclusion of this summer’s England tour to England.
Greenwood thinks the former-Warriors coach might be the candidate head coach Eddie Jones is convinced by:
The real counter-twist out of left-field choice would be Shaun Wane. He’s left Wigan Warriors and won multiple titles.
I think he’s the most successful coach in Super League history. I’ve been to watch him train at Wigan, the systems they have are in place all the way down from the academy to the senior team.

Wane has coached Wigan through 215 matches, winning 143 – good for a win percentage of 67%.
Admitting it would be a surprising appointment, Greenwood isn’t putting it past Jones:
It’s massively left-field but it’s not inconceivable that Eddie might go ‘I’m the top guy but I want someone to come in with some new ideas’
Scott Quinell tells me they (Wigan) are just an awesome defensive machine because he gets them so well drilled and organised.
England are also looking to add an attacking coach in a temporary capacity for the upcoming trip to play the Springboks.
