Wayne Pivac holds informal talks with Welsh Rugby Union

Scarlets head coach is reportedly involved in casual talks with the Welsh Rugby Union with respects to a possible succession of Warren Gatland as national team coach.

When Gatland’s contract runs out in 2019, the Pro 14 coach has been tipped as one of the front-runners to take his spot at the Principality Stadium.

The New Zealander acknowledged the discussions, but downplayed the severity:

Nothing formal… just discussions around my contract here (Scarlets).

As you’d expect, I’m sure most coaches at the highest level in Wales would have had conversations,

Glasgow Warriors coach Dave Rennie is also tipped to be on the WRU’s list of persons of interest.

Pivac also confirmed his side would not be signing George North on his return to Welsh rugby, as his difficult split from the Northampton Saints is made final.

With fullback Clayton Blommetjies joining from the Cheetahs prior to next season, the coach wasn’t seeking any additional recruitment at the position.

We have signed a back three player and we’re only signing one,

Scarlets have been enjoying a superb season, as they sit second in their Pro 14 conference, and can look forward to a European Champions’ Cup against Leinster.
