Habberfield signs new contract with Ospreys

Ospreys scrum-half Tom Habberfield has signed a new three-year contract at the Welsh club.

Having made his debut for Ospreys in 2012, the 23-year-old has acquired 67 appearances for the Pro12 outfit, and has made his name as a very reliable back-up scrum-half for Steve Tandy’s men.

With Rhys Webb’s long-term injury making him absent for the season up until now, Habberfield has filled in superbly – beating New Zealand international Brendon Leonard to the number-nine shirt on a good few occasions too.

Starting his career at Bridgend, Habberfield caught the eye after some scintillating showings in the Principality Premiership. He was then called into Wales’ Sevens squad shortly after his breakthrough.

With the quick scrum-half penning a future three years at the Liberty Stadium, this will be seen as a good news for all parties concerned.

Speaking about his new contract, Habberfield said:

I’ve been part of the system here a few years now, I’ve grown up here, so I’m excited about what the future brings.

I’m really enjoying my rugby and I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to get a lot of game time this season so far. When you look at the other nines in the squad, with Brendon Leonard playing well and Rhys Webb back at the weekend, it makes you realise the standard I have to hit consistently every week if I want to stay around the matchday 23.
