Cian Healy’s Leinster future cast in doubt

The future of Ireland prop forward Cian Healy has been cast into doubt after he was a notable omission from the recently announced list of players to have re-signed with Pro12 club Leinster.

Head coach Leo Cullen yesterday announced that he was pleased to confirm that 17 of his squad had agreed to sign new IRFU contracts whilst a further two new signings were confirmed in the form of Connacht centre Robbie Henshaw, who is currently with the Ireland squad, and Ian Nagle, formerly of Munster.

And with some of the province’s big name stars including Sean O’Brien, Dave Kearney, Mike Ross and Tadhg Furlong also signing new deals it came as a surprise that Healy was not listed despite his contract running out this summer.

Despite being highly regarded as one of the best prop forward in the northern hemisphere, the 28-year-old has often struggled with injuries that have restricted him to only 20 appearances for Leinster since 2013 and although he has made 56 appearances for the national side Leinster may now look to life without Healy.

A big money move to the Aviva Premiership may be on the cards for the prop forward with Worcester Warriors looking at the possibility of bringing Healy across the Irish Sea whilst a move to France with Toulon has also been touted.
