Rhodri Jones joins Ospreys from Scarlets

Welsh prop Rhodri Jones has joined his Pro12 rivals Ospreys, from Scarlets.

The former-Llanelli forward made an impressive 100 appearances for the Scarlets in his five year tenure at Parc Y Scarlets. However, now, he travels the short journey eastwards to play his rugby for Steve Tandy’s Ospreys.

A tight-head prop, Jones will compete for the starting number-three jersey for the seventh placed Pro12 outfit. Ospreys defeated Munster on the weekend, in a result that would have shown Jones that his new squad are capable of a Champions Cup finish.

Speaking to the Ospreys, Jones said:

I’m very excited about this move. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Scarlets but this is a great opportunity for me professionally. The Ospreys are a team that is competitive on all fronts, one that is up there with the best so it’s a real challenge for me to establish myself in the squad, although I’m looking forward to it

He leaves Wayne Pivac’s Scarlets, who themselves have been in terrific form this season, as they sit in 4th place with 10 wins from 14 games.

Jones is also a full Wales international, and has acquired 13 caps since his debut against the Barbarians at the Principality Stadium in 2012.

Jones is ready to feature for the Ospreys when they face Edinburgh at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night.
