Exeter Chiefs tie down quartet to new deals

Exeter Chiefs have  secured the future of four important first-team players with new and improved contracts, tying down Elvis Taione, Ian Whitten, James Short and Damian Welch.

The Chief’s head coach Rob Baxter was also delighted regarding his re-signing of the quartet for an extended period of time.

Obviously we’re really pleased to announce that the four guys have signed new deals. Each of them are very important members of the squad and we’re delighted that they want to be part of things moving forward.

The good news for the Chiefs is coming thick and fast after it was announced just days ago that the double signing of prop Greg Holmes and fly-half Ollie Devito from the Queensland Reds and Bath respectively was announced.

Hooker Taione has been in excellent form since deputising for the injured Luke Cowan-Dickie, easily earning himself a new deal at the club after such an impressive run of games.

Along with Taione’s good displays as of late, the trio of Whitten, Short and Welch are also big boosts to the Chiefs for the remainder of the season because, despite Welch’s unfortunate injury, he and his other team-mates who have been rewarded with new deals are integral parts of Baxter’s future plans.
