Championship title favourites, Bristol, have had their number nine, Craig Hampson smuggled by Wasps as they sign him on loan, their official website has confirmed
Wasps scrum-half, Joe Simpson, will be out for up to three months due to an ankle injury suffered against Leinster in their 51-10 victory in the European Champions Cup.
Wasps were left with just two alternative options for Simpson, a recent signing, Dan Robson and youngster, Jamie Stevenson.
Hampson has played for Yorkshire Carnegie in the past and impressed doing so. However, his action at Bristol has been limited due to the preferred duo of Dwayne Peel and Will Cliff.
Wasps coach, Dai Young, has expressed his delight to see the new signing transfer his skills to the Ricoh Arena.
“He has impressed in the Championship for both Bristol and Yorkshire Carnegie and we’re looking forward to him joining up with the squad.” “It is obviously disappointing for everyone that Joe has had to undergo surgery on his ankle, especially at a time when he was playing so well and I’m sure he was knocking on the door for international recognition.”
Simpson has proved to be a crucial part of Wasps’ season. The Englishman will miss out on this year’s Six Nations tournament, due to his injury.
The number nine’s aggression and kicking skills are hard to replicated and will be missed by Wasps for the next few months.
Dan Robson has impressed in Coventry, so far. Jamie Stevenson is also a promising aspect for Wasps’ fans; who hope that Simpson’s absence won’t affect their team negatively.
Wasps travel to Franklin’s Gardens to play Northampton, as the boys in black and gold hope to apply their European form to their domestic fixtures.
