Ospreys and Wales scrum-half Rhys Webb is set to miss the start of this year’s RBS Six Nations after failing to return from injury.
The 27-year-old has not recovered since suffering a foot injury in last year’s Rugby World Cup warm-up match against Italy in September after only returning to light training with his region this week.
Speaking to the BBC, Ospreys’ medical performance manager, Chris Towers doubts that the club’s star will be available for Wales’ opening game to Ireland on February 7:
His recovery is going well and we’re now concentrating on getting him to the physical level he needs to be in order to perform as we want.He has begun running again, starting doing some skills work, and the focus is on getting him available for selection at the end of February, which would be five months post-op.
Since renewing his National Dual Contract with both region and nation, Webb has yet to feature in this year’s Pro12 season as 30-year-old New Zealand scrum-half Brendon Leonard has deputised in his absence after he initially joined the club last January from Italian side Zebre.
