Leinster prop Cian Healy is in a race against time to be fit for Ireland’s Six Nations opener against Wales.
Healy has undergone a ‘scope and clear out’ of his right knee. Subsequently, after surgery, he is expected to be sidelined for up to a month.
With the 28-year-old out for what is likely to be a month, it comes as a huge fight for him to be fit in time for Ireland’s Six Nations opener with Wales on 7th February – and perhaps one that he will lose.
A club statement from Leinster said:
This was an elective procedure and while we are still waiting for the report, it is expected he will be out for three to four weeks.
The injury problems are now mounting for the defending champions with Iain Henderson and Tommy Bowe both set to miss the tournament.
However, a promising sign for Joe Schmidt is that Leinster duo Mike Ross and Jonny Sexton are returning from injury, and are set for action against Ospreys in the Pro12 on Friday night.
