England winger ruled out of Six Nations

England and Gloucester winger Jonny May has been ruled out of the 2016 Six Nations tournament.

May has 19 England caps to his name after becoming a key player for Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership in recent years. He also was England’s first-choice left wing at the 2015 World Cup and gained a number of plaudits on the international stage.

However, the 25-year-old acquired a nasty knee injury in December’s epic 39-39 draw between Gloucester and Harlequins at Twickenham.

Richard Heathcote/Getty Images SportSpeaking to the BBC, Gloucester’s director of rugby David Humphreys said:

He had surgery on Tuesday, the operation went well.

It’s very difficult to put a timeline on any knee injury. It’s a disappointing end to the 12 months for Jonny, both at club and international level.

This injury now rules May out of Engand’s Six Nations campaign, which kicks off in just under a month’s time. Eddie Jones’ side face Scotland at BT Murrayfield on 6th February without May on the wing.

Anthony Watson and Jack Nowell are now the two favourites to start on the wings against Scotland, with the in-form Chris Ashton also in contention.
