London Irish sign Hurricanes fly-half

London Irish have confirmed the signing of Wellington Hurricanes’ fly-half James Marshall after impressing on several occasions for the Hurricanes in their excellent form last season, helping them to the Super Rugby final.

The versatile 27-year-old, who is also capable of playing at full-back, has been named in the Hurricanes’ squad for their 2016 campaign but will be looking to a new challenge at London Irish in the not-so-distant future.

London Irish head of rugby operations Glenn Delaney, like Irish’s fans, has also expressed his delight over the signing of Marshall, describing the fly-half’s experience in the game as ‘invaluable’.

James possesses great game management skills and I am sure that the experience he has gained from being at Hurricanes will be invaluable to us at London Irish.

Marshall has also been quick to speak of his delight to be joining the Exiles.

The plans in place at the Club are very exciting and it is an environment I am looking forward to being a part of. I know Tom Coventry and Clark Laidlaw well from coaching in New Zealand and I am impressed by the ambition and vision and where they see the Club going. I look forward to joining the club next summer.

Irish will be hopeful that with the signing of Marshall, their fortunes will change as they currently sit bottom of the Aviva Premiership and in poor form.

The All Black international has played in 30 games for the Hurricanes, scoring a total of 72 points for the club.
