It was announced last night that Maro Itoje had won the Premiership Player of the Month award for December ahead of runners-up, Elliot Daly, Thomas Waldrom and Saracens teammate, Owen Farrell.
This season Maro Itoje has continued to improve at a phenomenal rate and is pushing hard for a starting spot with England while some are even talking him up as a potential candidate for the next England captain, and if not now then definitely in the future.
He recently put in a Man of the Match performance against Worcester Warriors and Wasps, where he was a constant threat to the Coventry based side throughout, but particularly at lineouts where he would steal possession or slow the ball down.
Additionally, this season, we have seen his physical abilities collaborate with his intelligent rugby brain and soft hand, to create a player that looks much older than just 21-years-old.
He has already won the Junior World Cup, the LV Cup and the A-league, all as captain and he has already captained the Saracens side this season.
Furthermore, he has already played in big games such as the Premiership Final and the Champions Cup semi-final, where he proved he can still excel as he was a standout performer on both occasions.
Stuart Lancaster included Itoje in his initial 50-man squad, but failed to make the final squad cut however, it is now all but impossible for Eddie Jones to leave him out of the starting XV against Scotland, as his partnership with George Kruis (another almost certain be in the squad) has been one of the core reasons behind Saracens going into 2016 unbeaten, as the two young and talented stars command a beautiful chemistry.
