Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half Dorian Jones is facing a lengthy spell on the side-line after acquiring a pectoral injury.
Jones obtained a muscle injury early-on during Dragons’ 12-7 defeat to Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium on New Year’s Day.
The 23-year-old has become a key player for the Dragons this season, raking up many appearances in the Pro12 and Challenge Cup at number 10. There’s also been hints that Jones could have been included in Warren Gatland’s Wales squad for the upcoming Six Nations tournament.
“Dorian has had a pectoral injury, which looks quite serious,” Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones told the BBC.
“It could be a few months, which is a blow to us because he’s right on top of his game, starting to challenge for national honours behind Dan Biggar.”
This comes as a shame for Jones, Dragons and for Welsh rugby in general. The accurate goal-kicker has been in top-form at Rodney Parade this season and with this new found injury, he’ll have to work extremely hard to come back and re-discover his form in a few months time.
On the plus side for Dragons’ coach Kingsley Jones, though, is that the Welsh international duo of Hallam Amos and Tyler Morgan are due to return to action very soon. The young pair both got injured in the 2015 World Cup with Wales, and have yet to play Pro12 rugby this season. This comes as a massive boost for the Dragons as they try to, optimistically, push on up to a play-off spot.
