Japan’s Rugby World Cup star Amanaki Mafi is set to sign for Bath on a short-term contract in January after impressing for his country.
The 25-year-old was a standout performer for Japan in their successful World Cup campaign and as a result of his brilliant displays, he has been lured away from NTT Shining Arcs by Bath (Western Daily Press).
He has already amassed a total of seven international caps for Japan and has scored 15 points for the Cherry Blossoms.
I’m really looking forward to arriving at Bath.
They are a very compelling side to watch play and I know that joining them will be the best environment for me to continue developing my game.

The number eight forward has been the subject of high praise from Bath head coach Mike Ford also in a recent interview, with Ford claiming that Mafi will give him another option to his already-strong Bath squad:
Amanaki is a talented young player who had a great Rugby World Cup and we’re excited to see what he can do in a Bath jersey.
We have some very good players in our back row already, but we’re always looking to strengthen the squad and Amanaki will give us another option.
