Cardiff Blues want to lure Leigh Halfpenny back to the Welsh capital at the end of the season, when his Toulon contract expires in June.
Halfpenny has been highly linked with a move away from France next season, with Wasps and Scarlets two clubs that have been identified as potential suitors for the full-back.
However, now, Blues coach Danny Wilson wants to make an optimistic offer for Halfpenny, and he insists that a return to Cardiff Arms Park would be great for the Welshman’s international future.
“The best interests of the player internationally would be at the front of our minds,” Wilson said to the BBC.
If Halfpenny did return to Wales, he’d be likely to sign a national dual contract (NDC) to ensure his stay in the Welsh national team.
“The design of the central (NDC) contract is to get our best players playing and staying in Wales, and therefore the management of those players has to be a huge selling point,” Wilson added.
“Between us and the strong relationship with the Welsh Rugby Union, the player gets the management he wants to peak and perform for Wales.”
Despite not being able to offer the same amount of money than some other clubs like Wasps, Cardiff Blues would be able to give Halfpenny a guaranteed Wales future, which could be a huge selling point to the 26-year-old.
