Iain Henderson out for the season

Ulster and Ireland lock/flanker Iain Henderson is set to be out for six months with a “significant hamstring tear” in his left leg, as confirmed by Gavin Cummiskey of the Irish Times.

The injury, which occurred in Ulster’s win over Edinburgh of Friday evening, means that the 23-year-old out of the upcoming Six Nations tournament.

The absence of Henderson will be a huge loss to Ulster, a side who are facing somewhat of an injury crisis with Darren Cave, Peter Nelson and Dan Tuohy also on the shelf.

Ulster released a statement which outlined the severity of Henderson’s injury, although they admitted that they do not wish to speculate on how long he’ll miss until he has been to see a specialist.

The Ulster statement read as follows:

He will be reviewed by a surgeon and his ongoing management and prognosis will be clearer after this consultation has taken place.

Ulster currently sit in 5th place of the Pro12 league table with 27 points from their nine games.
