Former Japan coach Eddie Jones has replaced Stuart Lancaster at the helm for England.
He was set to join Super Rugby team Stormers in South Africa, having stepped down from his Japan post after the World Cup.
Jones turned many heads when his Japan side got a surprise victory over South Africa during the World Cup, defeating Jones’ former side 34-32.
His Australia side reached the 2003 World Cup final, where they were beaten to the trophy by England.
Ian Ritchie of the RFU has described Jones as a ‘world class coach’ and thanked the Stormers for their cooperation in the deal to bring Jones to Twickenham.
Speaking to the media after his appointment, Jones has spoken of his excitement at being offered such a prolific role, and is looking forward to working with the team for the future.
The opportunity to take the reins in, possibly, the world’s most high profile international rugby job doesn’t come along every day however, and I feel fortunate to be given the opportunity. I’m now looking forward to working with the RFU and the players to move beyond the disappointment England suffered at the World Cup and hope to build a new team that will reflect the level of talent that exists within the English game. I believe the future is bright for England.
He joins England on a four-year deal, and will officially begin in December, in preparation for the Six Nations.
