Harlequins reward Robshaw with new contract

Current England captain Chris Robshaw has committed his long-term future to Harlequins after signing a new contract.

The former club captain, 29, is pleased to have extended his stay with the only club he has played for professionally and the new deal will see his association with the club rise to over 10 years after initially signing for them in 2005.

As reported by ESPN, Robshaw captained the side to the 2012 Aviva Premiership and the club is held very close to his heart.

“I am honoured to have re-signed with Harlequins, a team I’ve supported my whole life,” Robshaw said.

“The club feels like an extended family to me with its amazing players, management and supporters.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the club and I’m extremely excited to keep pushing for silverware with both Harlequins and England. I would like to thank all of the supporters for their continued support and look forward to being with this great club in the years to come.”

Following a disappointing Rugby World Cup campaign under his captaincy Robshaw was pleased to return to domestic rugby and to move away from the heavy scrutiny directed at the national side for becoming the first host nation to fail to advance past the pool stages.

Harlequins boss Conor O’Shea added: “Chris is everything you want in a rugby player and everything that you would want as a person. He has achieved incredible things in his career to date.

“Chris is an exceptional ambassador and role model for the sport and deserves recognition for what he has done, and will continue to do, for this game; I’d like to thank him for his selfless dedication, humility and resilience.

“I’m sure everyone at Harlequins will be delighted with this announcement and will look forward to seeing Chris playing in a Harlequins and England shirt for many years to come.”
