The Fijian captain, Akapusi Qera, has recently signed a contract extension with Montpellier Rugby, seeing him remain in France for an added two years, ESPN are reporting
The ex-Gloucester player will stay in the Top 14 after joining the club during the summer of 2014, after leaving the Aviva Premiership for a transfer to Toulouse during the previous season.
Qera played in all four of Fiji’s 2015 World Cup pool matches, as the Flying Fijians made a premature pool stage exit.
Qera’s contract was set to run out at the end of this season’s campaign, but the new deal will see the Fijian international stay on the south coast of France until, at least, the summer of 2018.
The Montpellier flanker said that his role in Montpellier Rugby Club ‘means a lot to [him] but also for [his] family.’ Qera went on to describe the club as a ‘project’ and saying that ‘with the new staff and the changes, I see where the club wants to go and I want to be part of this project.’
Qera went on to say how Montpellier was his ‘first choice’ and how he knew what the club’s ambitions were.
