Anscombe out for two months

Wales back Gareth Anscombe will miss at least the next two months after suffering an ankle injury.

The Cardiff Blues star, 24, sustained the injury during Wales’ 23-19 defeat to South Africa in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup and will have to undergo surgery.

Anscombe could also be a doubt for the 2016 RBS Six Nations campaign if the injury is as bad as initially feared.

As reported by the BBC, New Zealand-born Anscombe was ruled out of the initial 31-man squad with a similar injury, however, returned to the side once he had made a full recovery and started at fullback against Australia and South Africa.

He joined the Blues from Waikato Chiefs of New Zealand in July 2014 and qualifies to play for Warren Gatland’s side through his mother.

Anscombe, who can play at either fly-half or fullback, impressed during his 17 performances in the PRO12 league last year enough so for Gatland to approach his fellow national to play for Wales.
