French fly-half Freddie Michalak has said that serious change is required by France in the wake of their World Cup thrashing at the hands of reigning world champions New Zealand.
Michalak, who retired from international rugby earlier today, told allblacks.com that the gap between France and the likes of New Zealand and South Africa is growing, and if there isn’t change fast, they may lose sight of the ‘big teams’.
France’s all-time highest points scorer also said that the whole of the French rugby system needs an ‘overhaul’ and they need to start adopting traits of more successful nations.
He has also stated that he is upset to end his international career with an injury and a thrashing 62-13 defeat. He says that he no longer believes his body can cope with the strains of international test rugby.
He still awaits a new contract from Toulon to confirm that he has a club for the upcoming season.
