Wales prop Tomas Francis has described earning his first cap as a ‘dream come true’ in an interview with BBC Sport. The English-born player – who qualifies for Wales through his grandmother, admitted that winning his first cap is ‘a bit surreal’, but he could not want anything more from his first game than a win.
However, Francis is still quite the perfectionist and feels he could have done better: “I missed a few tackles and that scrum annoyed me a bit.” he said, but this promising start will put him in Warren Gatland’s mind for selection of his squad, which will be announced on August 31.
“I’ve just got to wait. I think we’re doing it live so no one is getting told before, so it’s a nervy day on Monday, wait and watch and hopefully get the call.
“Obviously I’m hopeful, I’d love to play but there’s a lot of competition in my position.”
With the return of Samson Lee imminent, Francis will have tough competition if he wants to be included in warren Gatland’s final squad.
