Springboks player ratings: Springboks 29-24 All Blacks

The Sprongboks took a huge step towards a series win with a 29-24 win over the All Blacks. The first half was incredibly tight seeing the sides going into the break at 12-12. The Springboks turned on their quality in the second half

All Blacks player ratings here.

1 Ox Nche- 9

Silky hands in the build-up to the second try, which came from a scrum where he dominated Tyrel Lomax.Nche made 10 tackles and two dominant tackles in a standout performance.

2 Malcolm Marx- 9

Break in midfield led to the Springboks making huge ground. Led to the penalty try from a penalty that also saw Ruben Love yellow-carded. Brilliant steal on 60 minutes as the All Blacks were starting to make some progress up the pitch. Directed the maul brilliantly to score the fourth try, taking the maul from the touchline under the posts. A fantastic all round performance where he made nine tackles.

3 Wilco Louw- 7

Penalty try from the scrum was crucial to the Springboks getting back to 12-12. Gave away a soft free kick at scrum time on the stroke of halftime, which the Springboks would have been looking to overturn. Made seven tackles in the game, but only one carry. Louw was the first front rower taken off by Erasmus.

4 Eben Etzebeth- 5

A surprisingly quiet game for the lock who is normally in the thick of things. Was taken off uncharacteristically early by Erasmus on 56 minutes. Only made one carry.

5 Ruan Nortje- 7

Led the Springboks for tackles, but did miss four and led the way for lineouts won in the match. Was a general nuisance around the ruck and tackle for the All Blacks,

6 Siya Kolisi- 7

Another captains performance where he led from the front for the Springbok. That makes it 55 wins as captain, most in Springboks history. Still recovering from his injury he came off after 56 minutes, but was visibly leading even from the sidelines. Made 12 tackles in the game, only missing one.

7 Pieter-Steph Du Toit- 6

Uncharacteristic number of missed tackle for the two-time world player of the year with four. Was joint fifth for the All Blacks for tackles completed.

8 Japser Wiese- 8

Springboks had a promising attacking position and obstructed with his lift at the lineout to give the All Blacks relief. Completed 11 tackles and and made 40 metres from nine carries throughout the game.

9 Cobus Reinach- 5

Tip tackle after the penalty try was given allowed the All Blacks to restart with a penalty. Got taken off shortly after half time and missed four of his tackles. The nine wasn’t given a lot of time to control but tries his best with what he could.

10 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu- 6

Yellow card for a deliberate knock-on. Ultimately led to the All Blacks first try as well. Made 11 carries in the game, more than any other Springbok and made a total of 55 metres. Only passed the ball five times successfully and did have to assume kicking duties once Cheslin Kolbe came onto the pitch.

11 Ethan Hooker- 8

Was named the official man of the match, but did make a few too many mistakes in my eyes for they. Made a big interception on 39 minutes, couldn’t regather for the try but did stifle the All Blacks attack. He was crucial on defence making 11 tackles, but did miss five of those.

12 Damian De Allende- 8.5

Great step to beat Leroy Carter on the outside and set up Kurt-Lee Arendse for the first Springboks try. Incredible steal on 75 minutes at the crucial time to keep pressure in the All Blacks 22.

Completed 11 of his 14 tackles and made eight carries.

13 Jesse Kriel- 9

One of the best individual tries that you will see. Beat Leroy Carter one-on-one in close contact and was met with an empty backfield behind. Made 58 metres, the second-‘most of any Springbok behind Mannie Libbok, who made most of his in one break. Was also the only Springbok to make more than one line break.

14 Kurt-Lee Arendse- 7.5

Very good finish linking up with Damian De Allende to get to the outside. Made 51 metres from seven carries, while making all seven of his tackles as well.

15 Cheslin Kolbe- 3

Lasted 2 minutes before needing to get taken off with a head injury. After the HIA he couldn’t return. Had one solid kick at the beginning of the game. Got run over by Luke Jacobson which led to his injury.
