Dobie Contract Gives Glasgow Warriors Key URC Retention Win

Jamie Dobie’s new long-term Glasgow Warriors contract gives Franco Smith a major retention win before the 2026/27 BKT United Rugby Championship campaign.

Glasgow confirmed that the Scotland scrum-half has extended his stay after seven years with the club, with Dobie now sitting on 99 Warriors appearances and closing in on a century in black and blue. The club said the 25-year-old has signed a long-term extension as preparations continue for next season.

Why Dobie’s deal matters

The timing is important. Glasgow’s recent URC title push has been built on continuity, squad athleticism and backline flexibility, and Dobie fits all three. He broke through as a scrum-half, has become a credible wing option, and finished the 2025/26 URC season as one of Glasgow’s joint-top try-scorers.

That makes this more than routine contract housekeeping. Dobie scored braces away to the Ospreys and Edinburgh, collected Player of the Match awards in both games, and also hit a hat-trick for Scotland against the USA at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

For a side still recalibrating after their URC semi-final defeat to the Bulls, keeping a dual-position Test player through his prime years is exactly the type of move that protects depth before another demanding league and European block.

Smith called Dobie’s versatility and understanding of Glasgow’s game “important attributes”, while Dobie said the club remains “the best place” for his development. In practical terms, the Warriors have secured a player who covers two selection problems in one contract.
