Munster have moved to sharpen their 2026/27 backline options by confirming the signing of Australian utility back Will Harrison on a one-year deal.
The province announced that Harrison will arrive from Japanese side Kinetsu Liners, adding a left-footed playmaker who can cover out-half, full-back and centre. The move was also confirmed by Irish Rugby, which underlined his age-grade pedigree and Super Rugby experience.
Why Harrison Matters For Munster
Harrison’s profile is the useful part. He was a former Australian Schoolboys captain, became the youngest player to start at out-half for the Waratahs against the Crusaders in 2020, and later moved to Japan after scoring 257 points in 38 Waratahs appearances.
That gives Munster a multi-position option rather than a pure specialist. Ian Costello described Harrison’s left-footed kicking game as a way to add balance across the squad, and that detail is significant after a season in which Munster’s attacking structure often needed more variety behind the pack.
For a Munster side trying to stay in the sharp end of the United Rugby Championship, this is a low-risk contract with clear tactical upside. A one-year term keeps the pressure on performance, but Harrison’s ability to cover three key backline roles gives the province depth without locking themselves into a longer rebuild call.
