Tyler Ardron’s return gives Canada’s Nations Cup squad an immediate layer of Test-match authority before a July block that already looks like a referendum on depth.
Rugby Canada have confirmed a 32-player group for the opening window of the inaugural World Rugby Nations Cup, with Stephen Meehan’s side beginning against Spain in Edmonton on 4 July before facing Portugal and Zimbabwe.
Ardron And Rumball Change The Floor
Ardron is the headline stabiliser. Rugby Canada list the Castres forward at 39 caps, and his previous Test outing came in the 34-20 win over the United States in August 2025, when he scored four tries.
Lucas Rumball’s recall matters just as much. The Chicago Hounds captain arrives after an unbeaten Major League Rugby title season, giving Canada a hardened back-row voice alongside Ardron, Evan Olmstead and Andrew Quattrin.
The squad is not simply veteran-heavy. Six uncapped players have been named, including Josh McIndoe, Liam James, Jacob Ince, Henry Kirwan, Cody Nhanala and Bryce Worden, which gives Meehan room to test the next layer without stripping out leadership.
Canada’s route is sharply defined: Spain first, Portugal a week later, then Zimbabwe in Winnipeg on 18 July. For a side already qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, this July Test window is less about discovery for its own sake and more about proving the spine can travel into a new competition format.
