Springboks star called “next Dan Carter” by former England out-half

Sacha Feinburg-Mngomezulu put in a starring display as he scored 21 of the Stormers 38 points as they earned a 38-38 draw in Belfast.

One former England out-half, Stuart Barnes spoke to Planet Rugby and hailed the 24 year old as the “next Dan Carter”.

Barnes is a 10-time England international who was also a member of the 1993 British and Irish Lions Tour.

What makes Feinburg-Mngonezulu so special?

The young 10 has every skill in his locker and displayed this in the crucial draw against Ulster which guaranteed the Stormers a home quarter final in the URC with one game to play.

When Barnes was describing Feinberg-Mngomezulu, he said;

“Long, lean, elegant, he is potentially the face of rugby’s future. In a year’s time the world will see him take the stage in the 2027 World Cup.”

Things could be very different for the 19-time Springbok as he was eligible to play for England through his father. Eddie Jones approached the number 10 in 2022, offering him the opportunity to play for England, but he rejected the approach.

The youngster decided to focus on playing for South Africa and it has paid off. He holds the record for the most points scored by an individual for the Springboks, when he scored 37 points against Argentina in the Rugby Championship.

Feinburg-Mngomezulu was a try-scoring machine in the Autumn internationals in 2025 and has scored a total of nine tries for South Africa, already joining Handre Pollard and Morne Steyn as the record out-half tryscorer for the Springboks. These efforts saw him named in the World Rugby Dream Team of the Year.

What next for Feinberg-Mngomezulu?

Barnes added to his conversation with Rugby Planet saying;

“This fly-half, barring the unfortunate, is the next Dan Carter; quicker, maybe better.”

As the ‘93 Lions squad member thinks, Feinberg-Mngomezulu has everything ahead of him as a player. The first thing for him is to maintain his place as the Springboks 10. If he does, he has the potential to break every points-scoring record that the Springboks have.
