France have started their tournament with two wins against Wales and Italy. They had reached the World Cup semi-final, where they lost to England. They then lost to the Black Ferns in the third-place playoff. France went down to 13 players early in the game, and Wales took the lead. The score was 7-7 at the break, but France went on to score five in the second half and won 38-7.

Ireland picked up a fantastic win against Italy in round two of the tournament, having lost the opener to England and lost their final two World Cup games, one of which was against France. They scored nine tries in the match and kept Italy to four, two of which had come after Ireland had already reached 50 points.

Ireland haven’t beaten France since 2017, but the closest they have come to a win was in the 2025 World Cup. Ireland took a 13-0 lead at halftime, but conceded two tries and two penalties in the second half to lose narrowly 18-13.
