The Hurricanes had won five games in a row when they went to face the Chiefs. The Canes were leading 12-3 at halftime, having scored early and late in the first half. They lost the ball, and the Chiefs countered, and a tremendous offload allowed them to bring the score back level. McKenzie had a kick to win the game, but it came up short, and they went to extra time. In extra time, the Chiefs went for a drop-goal, but even with a charge down, the Chiefs collected the ball, and Sititi scored the winning points.

The Brumbies suffered a shock home defeat to the Fijian Drua in the last round, continuing their run of alternating wins and losses.
