Ireland have lost three matches in a row despite putting in some incredibly impressive performances. Their last two wins came in the World Cup group stage, which allowed them to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament. In the opening game of the Six Nations, they lost 33-12 to England. Both of Ireland’s tries came in the last 20 minutes when they had already fallen 28-0 behind.

Italy finished the 2025 Six Nations on a high as they beat Wales in the final round, having also beaten Scotland earlier in the tournament. Having lost narrowly to South Africa in the group stage of the World Cup, they finished their tournament with a strong win over Brazil. In the opening round of the tournament, Italy were defeated 40-7 by France. Italy scored late on but were only five points down at halftime. They conceded five second-half tries.
