The Gallagher Premiership returns next weekend (20th March) with week 11, where 2nd place Bath are facing 6th place Saracens, and Leaders Northampton Saints taking on the bottom side Newcastle Red Bulls. Read part one of my Gallagher Premiership season review here, and this is part two.
Gallagher Premiership Week 6 – Saints Lose for the first time
Northampton slipped to their first defeat of the season when they lost 46-12 to Bristol, with Sam Worsley scoring 16 points. Northampton’s cause wasn’t helped by a first minute Red Card for Edoardo Todaro for a dangerous challenge on Worsley. However, Bath beat Saracens 36-29, after being down by five points at half-time to keep the pressure on. Exeter also came back from being behind at half-time to beat Sale 26-27. Newcastle continued their winless run as they lost 39-17 to Leicester, and Gloucester beat Harlequins 26-15.
Gallagher Premiership Week 7 – Bath and Northampton score big
There was some big scores this week, as Northampton got back to winning ways, as they ran in seven tries in an emphatic 47-21 defeat of Sale, Finn Russell converting six of them. Bath went one better with eight tries in a 50-14 mauling of Newcastle, with Dan Frost scoring twice. Leicester scored six tries in their emphatic 45-14 victory over Gloucester, while Bristol also ran in six tries as they beat Harlequins 40-14. The closest game of the weekend saw Exeter beat Saracens 30-24, Henry Slade yet again scoring 15 points.
Week 8 – Two top clash
The top two teams in the Gallagher Premiership met in a huge clash, with Northampton scoring six tries. Three came for Tommy Freeman and two from Henry Pollock, as they won 41-21 against Bath at The Rec. Bristol continued to keep the pressure up on the top two with six tries and a 36-27 win over Newcastle, Louis Rees-Zammit scoring twice. Harlequins slipped to another defeat as Sale scored 29 unanswered points in the second half to win 43-17, with Jacques Vermeulen touching down twice. Saracens beat Gloucester in a tight 21-30 win, Owen Farrell and Theo McFarland both scoring 10 points. The Henry Slade show continued for Exeter, as he scored nine points in a 24-10 win over Leicester.
Week 9 – Red Bulls win for the first time
Newcastle picked up their first win of the season. Brett Connon scored 10 points in a 25-19 win over Gloucester. Whereas Bath recovered from their defeat to Northampton the previous week. They won a 33-26 thriller as Arthur Green scored a last-minute try to secure the win against Exeter. Northampton continued to dominate, as they ran in 10 tries against the hapless Harlequins to win 66-21, Alex Coles scoring a hat-trick and doubles for Danilo Fischetti and Edoardo Todaro, with Fin Smith converting eight tries for 16 points. Leicester beat Saracens 36-28 at Welford Road, Adam Radwan scoring two of the five tries, and Bristol beat Sale in a thrilling game, winning 19-17.
Week 10 – Saracens score 70
Saracens ran in 10 tries, and were given a penalty try as they destroyed Newcastle 73-14, Noah Caluori scoring four. At the other end of the scale, Bristol edged out Exeter 8-3, with the only try scored by Noah Heward. Harlequins’ poor form continued as Leicester scored five tries in a 34-7 win. Northampton made it four wins in a row with a 43-29 win at Sale, with seven tries. Finn Russell scored 15 points as Bath beat their South-West counterparts Gloucester 30-26.
