Johnny Sexton praises Ireland’s “great” system after winning Six Nations

Ireland fly-half Johnny Sexton has revealed that he believes Ireland have a “great” system in place to protect and look after their players in terms of health and success, according to a report on the RugbyPass.

Sexton played a huge role for Ireland as they claimed the Six Nations title and Grand Slam in style against England at Twickenham.

Ireland went throughout the whole tournament undefeated and whilst other teams complained of fatigue, Ireland looked fresh for every match and showed that in their performances.

Sexton and several other Leinster players were rested after their Six Nations campaigns and are expected to return for their Champions Cup quarter-final against Saracens.

Sexton said:

I think we’ve got a great system here.

It can be tough when you are trying to do your best for club and country because you’re never going to say no. Where we really get looked after is during pre-season and leading up to World Cups and stuff. We are very well looked after.

There has been a huge debate about player fatigue after England’s catastrophic collapse in the Six Nations this year as they lost three matches in a row to Scotland, France and Ireland.

However, with Ireland coping with the demands of the tournament perfectly well, it may come down to the training methods used by the coaches which are affecting other teams more than it does to Ireland.
