Gregor Townsend wants more from Scotland after third place finish in Six Nations

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has revealed that he wants more from his players after earning three wins in his first Six Nations tournament with the side, according to a report on BBC Sport.

Scotland’s best moment from the tournament was beating arch-rivals England for the first time in a decade in what was a deserved Calcutta Cup victory.

Townsend believes that he has reason to be satisfied with how his team performed at the tournament but is keen to achieve more with a talented group of players.

He said:

Three wins is a big achievement. We’re not pleased with how we played against Wales and with not taking chances against Ireland or our first half performance [against Italy].

Nothing’s ever perfect and we understand there will be times when we don’t play as well and we have to find a way to get better, find a way to win.

But we know a lot of work has to go in over the next 18 months – the next 12 months to have a better Six Nations championship and then 18 months to have a good World Cup.

Scotland began the tournament with an embarrassing defeat at the hand of Wales but they regrouped very well to finish the tournament in third place.

This was the second year in a row that Scotland finished third and Townsend is hoping to go a step further in next year’s tournament.
