Eddie Jones believes England don’t have enough leaders
England head coach Eddie Jones has revealed that he believes his side don’t have enough leaders on the pitch after losing at home to Ireland, according to a report on the Sportsmole.
England’s Six Nations defence capitulated this year and they lost three matches in succession to hand the Grand Slam to Ireland at Twickenham.
Jones’ side came into the tournament as the favourite to retain their crown for a record-breaking third time in a row but their dream turned into a total disaster as they fell to defeat against Scotland, France and Ireland.
England were outplayed in all areas of the pitch by Ireland and Jones believes that there was nobody to lift his players on Saturday.
When asked about how England can bounce back and what needs to be done, he said:
Things like leadership density of the team and having more leaders. We need more guys like Owen Farrell and to do that you need more time to develop. You are asking them to do other things, sometimes the weight of those things affects their performance in a negative way.
You never know, some people are born leaders and others aren’t. The ones who aren’t take a bit of time. You just have to wait and see. That’s a big area for us guys to get right and it does take time.
Jones’ comments have caused rumours that current skipper Dylan Hartley may be stripped of his captain duties before the World Cup in Japan next year.
