Ireland receive double injury boost ahead of Scotland clash

Ireland have received a double injury boost ahead of their Six Nations clash with Scotland this weekend, as Tadhg Furlong and Iain Henderson have returned to training, according to a report on The Telegraph.

Both players picked up hamstring injuries during the crushing 56-19 win over Italy and were forced to miss the entertaining 37-37 win over Wales.

There were concerns about whether they would return before the end of the tournament but Ireland can now breathe easy as they have returned to training this week.

Both players are a key component of the Ireland side as they look to secure the Grand Slam this year ahead of England, who they face in the final round of the tournament.

A statement from the Irish Rugby Football Union said:

Tadhg Furlong and Iain Henderson continued their rehab last week and are expected to train fully this week.

However, Ireland are ensuring that they are not overworked this week as they do not want to risk them getting injured again, especially with the crunch match against England coming up soon.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt is keeping a close eye on the fitness of both players and said last week:

We decided to take our time a little bit with that recovery process so that, with that extra week, we’d have them training fully on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week.

Maybe we manage them a bit on the Monday.

Ireland faces Scotland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday as they look to continue their unbeaten run in this year’s Six Nations.
